Having won the hearts of fans throughout the world during her performances with superstar artists, the talents of songstress Vana Johnson are at last center stage. In response to requests of listeners both new and longstanding, Ms. Johnson has co-written and produced an album of positive, uplifting songs chronicling life's incredible journey.
Her solo debut entitled Messages on 1022 Records, is creating a brand new category of music…"New age Soul!" Offering songs that combine an orchestral sound with international influences, she defines New Age Soul as simply, spiritually uplifting food for thought carrying messages of love, hope and tolerance. Her philosophy is, "Life can be really simple but sometimes we forget and make it more complicated then it needs to be!"
Perhaps best known for her performance of Yanni's haunting anthem "Love Is All," Ms. Johnson was a featured artist during the musical superstar's worldwide "Tribute" tour and PBS special. Ms. Johnson is one of the few performers ever to sing in front of the Taj Mahai - known as one of the Seven Wonders of the World.
A native of Michigan now loving in Los Angeles, Ms. Johnson has been inspiring hearts ever since her voice met a microphone. The singer-songwriter got her big break from another singer-songwriter named Michael Bolton. A chance meeting with the R & B bailadeer led to an audition and an opportunity to tour with Bolton throughout the world.
Recently, Ms. Johnson was a special guest performer in a Los Angeles concert featuring members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the San Diego Symphony Orchestras. In addition to a duet with Alan Paul of the Manhattan Transfer, Ms. Johnson sang her original composition, I Cried for You, in a new symphonic arrangement by multi-Grammy nominated composer Patrice Rushen.
The music in Messages had been well received from around the world. "We have not only reached my longtime fans, but we are also touching other listeners who are curious as to what New Age Soul is about! For that I'm very grateful," says Ms. Johnson.
"I've been encouraged to tour in an orchestral setting to perform Messages and that's certainly very exciting to me! Who knows, perhaps one day I'll have to Taj Mahai as a backdrop again!"
