She has been visiting Vancouver on six month stints using travellers Visas. She makes her money under the table doing full service work. Tamara is resilient, if chaotic and secretive. She met December through community in the DTES and the two became fast friends. In messy and forgetful fashion, she mixes up her current Visa due date and realizes she has less than twenty four hours to get back to America. Easy to rile up, she ultimately loves her friends and truly means well to those who show up for her. LEAD

She is a harm reduction worker, has lived experience as a sex worker, is a fiercely loyal friend and very independent. December has become close friends with Tamara over the past year after meeting through community. She has family connections in the city in her cousin Anne and Aunt TIna but spends the day dodging persistent and mysterious phone calls from home [specifically her mother] while choosing to help her chosen family. She has a passion for the arts, particularly writing and drawing, a practice she does frequently but doubts her own potential in. LEAD

Ria

Project title
Squat and Stool
Media
Short Film
Due date
Thursday April 3, 2025
Submissions from
Vancouver
Role description

SOUTH-ASIAN OR SIMILAR Ria is smart, quirky, and slightly neurotic, with an overactive imagination. Originally from India, she’s adapted well to life in Canada—except for one thing: Western toilets. Used to squatting since childhood, she finds herself in a hilariously dire situation when she visits her boyfriend’s parents and realizes she can’t go without her trusty squat stool. As her desperation grows, so do her ridiculous makeshift solutions. She’s warm, lovable, and a little awkward—think Jess from New Girl meets Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids. Requirements: Strong comedic timing, expressive physical acting, ability to handle awkward humor.

Vancouver
Role description

CAUCASIAN Ben is a lovable, easygoing guy who adores Ria but is sometimes hilariously oblivious to her struggles. The classic golden retriever boyfriend—charming, affectionate, but not the most observant when it comes to subtle emotional cues. He’s thrilled to introduce Ria to his parents but remains completely unaware of the internal battle she’s fighting. Think John Krasinski in The Office meets Jason Segel in Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Requirements: Natural comedic charm, strong chemistry with Ria, ability to deliver dry humor.

Role description

CAUCASIAN William is Ben’s dad—reserved, wise, and observant. He’s a man of few words but misses nothing. A former athlete with an air of quiet authority, he carries himself with the confidence of someone who’s seen it all. Beneath his composed exterior, he has a subtle sense of humor and a surprising level of understanding. He slowly picks up on Ria’s unusual behavior, and in the end, proves to be her unexpected ally. Think Nick Offerman in Parks and Rec meets J.K. Simmons in Juno. Requirements: Strong deadpan delivery, ability to express warmth beneath a stern demeanor.

Role description

CAUCASIAN Margaret is the warm, talkative, effortlessly sophisticated mother of Ben. She’s the type who thrives on making guests feel at home—sometimes too much. She dotes on Ria, offering large portions of homemade meals and suggesting touristy outings, oblivious to the fact that Ria is internally panicking the whole time. Think Julie Walters in Mamma Mia meets Catherine O’Hara in Schitt’s Creek.

Emma

Female - 25 to 40 yrsLead Union or Non union
Project title
Into The Abyss, Gaze!
Media
Short Film
Due date
Monday March 31, 2025
Submissions from
Toronto
Role description

Caucasian- Emma is 33. She is a well-meaning, emotionally-driven woman who prides herself on being empathetic and always striving to heal old wounds, particularly with her estranged family. She believes deeply in the power of forgiveness, especially when it comes to their mother, despite the painful past they share. Emma is determined to reconnect and often pushes others, especially Suzan, toward reconciliation, believing that love and understanding can mend even the deepest rifts. She’s compassionate, often idealistic, and seeks to fix what’s broken, even when it seems impossible. However, Emma’s empathy can sometimes be more performative than practical. Despite claiming to be empathetic, when Suzan falls into the freezing water, Emma hesitates, frozen by fear and shock, unwilling to put herself at risk to save her sister. This moment of inaction reveals a stark contrast to her self-image and exposes the limits of her compassion, leaving her to face the consequences of her emotional naivety. Emma's loyalty and desire to mend broken bonds often blind her to the boundaries others set, leaving her frustrated and emotionally drained when her efforts fail.

Suzan

Female - 28 to 40 yrsLead Union or Non union
Project title
Into The Abyss, Gaze!
Media
Short Film
Due date
Monday March 31, 2025
Submissions from
Toronto
Role description

Caucasian- The actor must be ok with getting inside cold water. Suzan is 36. She is a sharp, cynical woman with a no-nonsense attitude, shaped by years of emotional distance. She has a tough exterior, often coming across as cold, detached, and unwilling to show vulnerability. Suzan is independent to a fault, preferring to keep her emotions buried deep. She struggles with the idea of forgiveness, especially when it comes to their mother, whom she holds responsible for much of the pain in her life. Though she can be sarcastic and even dismissive at times, there's a raw honesty to her that can’t be ignored. She has a strong sense of self-preservation, often running away from emotional confrontations rather than dealing with them. Despite her guarded nature, she’s surprisingly resourceful and capable, having learned to fend for herself.

Project title
FULL METAL HACKET Short Film, 16-minutes
Media
Short Film
Due date
Saturday March 29, 2025
Submissions from
Vancouver
Role description

Callahan is a tall, bright, young adult male, who wants to excel in boot camp, but who struggles with emotional self-control and has a soft-spot for romance. He is a little smart for his own good, but an even bigger flaw is that he may be gullible and may see life, at times, through 'rose-coloured glasses' as they say. This satirical character is based upon the character, JOKER, who was originally played by Matthew Modine in the 1987 feature film, FULL METAL JACKET, directed by the late Stanley Kubrick. However, we are open to any race or height in our casting. This character MAY wear wire-rim eye-glasses, but they are not necessary for success in casting. However, non-prescription glasses may be used for the performance. FYI
