The Core Serenader is a dynamic singer/actor/performer. They are an energetic and positive performing artist that can sing and is adept at acting improv, and have an interest in connecting with seniors and those who live in care environments. They preferably can self-accompany on an instrument, though it is not required. Performers who are multilingual are especially encouraged to apply. They are available for performances and engagements 35hrs/week The Core Serenader collaborates with other ensemble members on creating and offering ongoing musical performances to seniors in a variety of contexts, including care homes, hospitals, seniors’ centres, outdoors and online. They are creative, flexible, able to work both collaboratively in group settings, and independently. The Core Serenader is willing and able to take leadership when called upon to do so, and also support and encourage the leadership of others. They are true ensemble members. Most importantly, the Core Serenader is a positive, caring, genuine, creative individual, willing and eager to give time and attention to isolated seniors and people in care settings, and creatively collaborate with fellow artists.

Ben Lynn, in his twenties, is a scrappy, degenerate gambler with a string of bad decisions behind him, but unlike his polished and cunning younger brother James, Ben is oddly endearing. Though often broke and unreliable, he has a surprising sense of humor, street smarts, and a laid-back charm that makes him more likable than expected. He lacks ambition and polish, but what he lacks in discipline, he makes up for in brutal honesty and unfiltered commentary. Despite being a “loser” on paper, Ben has a certain underdog appeal and flashes of unexpected loyalty that hint there’s more to him than meets the eye.

A passive, deadpan everyman who allows others to control his life without a care. He can feel something is wrong but can’t figure out why. His solution: Good ol’ fashioned suicide. When given the opportunity to put on his own funeral the way he envisions, he finds passion in being someone of importance. Realizing there is potential in this ambitious side of himself, he runs out on his own funeral. Over the course of the film, Stew goes from empty and almost robotic to adventurous and optimistic of the future.

A Persuasive and amiable businessman with leadership skills, but lacking remorse. As Stew’s confident “best friend”, he is used to making the decisions but sees the potential in Stew’s funeral being a spectacle in which he can partake. So, he helps his friend carry out his vision in any way he can.

Clear, straightforward, sophisticated, acting as the closest thing to the voice of logic and reason in an absurd society. Judith prioritizes her marketing job highly but is still one of the few to acknowledge the existence of her ex-boyfriend Stew from time to time. Judith, like most, seems unbothered when Stew announces his own funeral, doubtful he’d go through with it ... and she’d probably get over it pretty quickly anyway.

Dramatic, overly emotional. Struggling to find an acting job in a society fixated on the logical, the majestic Sophie is thrilled to be employed on a production as big as Stew’s funeral as Stew’s grieving fiancée. However, she expertly disguises her enthusiasm with the fake grief she expresses while auditioning for the role and later at the funeral. Nothing can cause her to break character.
