Ivan Hanes
Reserved, composed, and articulate, Ivan Hanes is a quiet darling of the visual arts scene. Unlike Charlie, Ivan’s career success has been slower and more modest, but more importantly, it’s been on their own terms. After Charlie’s betrayal ten years ago, Ivan had to rethink their “heart-on-his-sleeve” sincerity as a young gay artist. Ivan is cautious of every space they enter and is always concerned with the boundaries of whether or not they belong in the room. With this strong concern with boundaries, Ivan has learned to unapologetically call out injustice where they see it, and that righteous anger is born out of the pain Charlie left them with.
Jason Daley
Jason is Charlie’s meticulous, charismatic publicist and number one fan. He’s deeply enthusiastic about her work and wants the best for her. However, this intense earnestness can manifest as overbearing as he assumes that his public relations plans for her are always the most important thing in her life.
Elliot
A man consumed by guilt and grief after his wife’s death, for which he is responsible in an abusive manner. Quiet, haunted, and emotionally imploding. He is a twisted man who victimizes himself, yet feels the guilt of his sins. Elliot seeks escape through physical transformation and ends up from withdrawn numbness to full-blown psychological breakdown. Actors should be comfortable with simulated prosthetics/blood and physical choreography under the guidance of a stunt coordinator. Should be comfortable with intimacy under the guidance of an intimacy coordinator.
The Tailor
Mysterious, calm, unsettling. The tailor speaks a few words but commands deep presence. He is both practical and philosophical — helping people disappear, but without pity. He is rooted in stillness, control, and ambiguity. He has seen people try to run away from their past but he knows at the end, it is going to catch up to them, someway or the other. He is accustomed to it. He is a medium for karma.
The Man
A grieving father who believes Elliot is the man who harmed his daughter. Burnt-out, controlled rage until it snaps. He regrets not being able to save his daughter and carries the emotional weight of it. He tries to use physical aggression and revenge as a way of coping up with his loss and guilt. He has a big overpowering physicality to him. Actors should be comfortable with physical choreography under the guidance of a stunt coordinator.
Julien
Quiet, introspective photographer caught between the beauty of his personal art and the soullessness of his client work. Speaks French fluently with a natural, unforced accent. Emotional range: gentle warmth with his daughter, visible heaviness in solitude. Comfortable with long, silent takes.
JOIE
Bubbly, curious, and full of life. Speaks French fluently (Québécois preferred). Natural charm, expressive without overacting. Able to memorize short lines in French and perform playful, physical scenes (running, skipping, playing).
CAMILLE
Warm yet guarded. A mother with a complicated history with Julien. Speaks French fluently. Able to convey deep emotional subtext with subtle expression.
