ABBY CHAN
18+ Please. Chinese-Canadian. Abby is Wenly’s best friend. Wry, sarcastic with a no-bs attitude, she is the best friend who will tell you the truth, despite your feelings. Abby has listened to Wenly all summer go on and on about her relationship with Keren, and her sexual desires for him. Unknowingly to Wenly, Abby has also become close with Keren.
KEVIN LEE
Chinese-Canadian. Kevin is a devout Christian who is about to go to seminary school in the fall, due to the pressure from his father. His girlfriend, Wenly, has been teasing him with physical intimacy all summer and eventually offers up her virginity to him. Kevin is guilt-ridden after having premarital sex as it is against the word of God, and turns to Abby, Wenly’s best friend for comfort.
FLORENCE TAN
Malaysian-Canadian. Florence is Wenly’s loving mother and the wife of Pastor Tan. Florence is an avid badminton player, who hates reminders that she’s no longer as quick and nimble as she once was. Deeply intuitive and understanding, Florence knows her daughter better than Wenly does, and can always sense when something is wrong.
TAN KOK-MENG
Malaysian-Canadian. Pastor Tan is a loving father, adoring husband, and a devoted faith-practitioner. A strict Asian parent who preaches devout practices, and expects nothing less from his own daughter. Pastor Tan is well-loved within his congregation, always there to lend a helping hand or offer words of wisdom. He is a jokester, an upbeat optimist, and always tries in a cringe Gen X way to encourage his Gen Z parishioners to be more involved in the church.
MAN WITH GOLDEN RETRIEVER
A bachelor residing on the 5th floor of the Tans’s condo complex with his adorable golden retriever. Dressed in pajama bottoms, this man is about to take his dog out but accidentally enters the elevator going up, instead of down to the lobby. Realizing his mistake, he exits after his dog has taken a dump on the elevator floor with the Tans inside.
KID
A kid with a great love of chicken nuggets. He is sympathetic and knowing of the PMS he thinks Wenly is experiencing at the fast food joint.
MOTHER
A nosey, uptight mom in mom jeans who is appalled at the language Wenly displays in public near her young children.
Lola
Open ethnicity. Lola is a buff and hot headed personal trainer. Her face is hard and has eyes like knives. In the gym, she always commands the room. She has a tendency to push her clients to their limit, has high standards and puts heavy emphasis on proper form. Under the tough exterior is an outsider who struggles to connect with others due to her dominant personality. Lola’s loneliness fuels her constant need for a challenge. She has an affinity for the underdog and a kind heart, but refuses to let it get in the way of her tough love.
Teddy
Open ethnicity. Teddy is a scrawny, boyish young man in his mid twenties who would never stand out in a group. He has a choked up, light voice and is hesitant with a soft, clean-shaven face, Teddy is desperate for attention, constantly trying to appear macho whether it be his faux-confidence or contrarian behaviour. His masculine insecurity walks the line between being ignorant and fussy. However, Teddy has a competitive nature in him, his inability to prove himself physically results in a reckless daredevil who will up the score just in an attempt to win. Open ethnicity.
Gym Receptionist
The gym receptionist that works at Lola and Teddy’s gym. She has a kind exterior but is a little self-involved and shallow. She is not insecure and at times in her own world. Teddy has a crush on her which she either doesn’t realize or doesn’t pay attention to. She is fascinated by Lola’s strength and energy.
Trainee
Your average gym attendee, looking to get fit and healthy. Begins training with Lola but is quickly frustrated and put off by her approach as a trainer.
Old Man
A commuter on the train. Asks Lola for a piece of gum.
Laundry Mom
Mom with young kids, using laundry product and loading washing machine. Any ethnicity. No visible tattoos.
CELEBRITY
A sensitive, emotionally complex boy with a poetic soul and a strong attachment to his mother. Naive and slightly effeminate in childhood, he evolves into a confident, energetic dancer and expressive young man. Must possess strong emotional depth and movement/dance ability.
Shobha
A voluptuous, beautiful Indo-Fijian woman. A gifted Mai Kai & Bollywood dancer, she is emotional and goes with the flow, often confused yet deeply impactful. Needs to portray her journey across three stages of life with fluid grace and subtlety.
Nav/Jason/Ryan
NAV: 18 to 30, pious, insightful, and mentor-like cousin to Celebrity. JASON: Minor role but meaningful. RYAN: 20's, poetic Canadian boy in a tender same-sex relationship with Celebrity. Ideal for actors with subtle emotional range and deep sensitivity
Vai/Dayal/Buddy
Versatile actor to play multiple complex roles: VAI: Age 30, layered and enigmatic. DAYAL: 45, strong, caring Indo-Canadian, a father figure, but torn by his desires. BUDDY: 35, sinister paedophile with a predatory edge. TANTRIC: (Optional) A mystical presence; spiritual & intense. Requires a performer with a wide emotional range, physicality, and ability to shift between darkness and vulnerability.

Kasey
Kasey is withdrawn, guarded, but her silence holds weight. She’s endured the loss of her family for harbouring an alien. Beneath the blank stares and clipped responses is someone aching for connection. She doesn’t want to reintegrate into society after serving her sentence; she wants meaning, and she'll find it again.
