Ron
A rugged oil operator who has spent years working away from home. He wears his exhaustion like a second skin. Steel toe boots, worn jacket, the look of someone who carries the weight of sacrifice. Outwardly, he's laid-back, funny and quick with a sarcastic jab, especially with his best friend. But beneath the surface, he is drowning in grief, guilt and regret.
Morgan
Morgan is Ron's longtime best friend, grounded, dependable, and settled into family life. He's a husband, father, and professional who has built the life Ron wishes he had. Comfortable in his skin, Morgan's humor is playful but never mean-spirited, and he carries himself with the quiet confidence of someone who has found his place in the world.
Margaret
Margaret is an ambitious actress. She's had a bit of luck in community theatre and has a couple of commercials under her belt, but she knows she's capable of so much more. Dedicated to her craft, she spends her free time training, poring over books on theory, listening to podcasts, and auditioning for anything she can. She's always been charismatic and has a natural feel for comedic timing, which has earned her a solid group of friends outside the industry. She deeply cares what people think of her. More than anything, she wants to be loved and respected. She can't stand being lonely.
Dan
Dan is a working actor. Conventionally attractive. He's usually a daily - a doctor, a lawyer, the friend the main character sees at the bar, but he's been able to make a living at it. He met Margaret at an acting class and they realized that there was a chemistry to their scenes, so they soon became readers for each others' auditions. They don't hang out personally much, but have known each other for over a year and are quite familiar. He's been in a 3 year relationship with a girl from his small town in Manitoba. They moved to Toronto together where she's been flourishing in her career.
James
James is Margaret's roommate. He works at a T-shirt printing shop. He's arsty and has been meaning to become a tattoo apprentice for about 5 years, but he hasn't gotten around to it. He's been dating Ally for a couple of years on and off. She's not like him - she's beautiful, smart, ambitious. A bit of a handful, but he likes that sometimes. She likes things that are a bit classier, so he's not entirely sure why she likes him, but they've been good for each other in a lot of ways. He wants to be better for her.
Ally
Ally works at a marketing firm and is quickly rising up the ladder. She prides herself on her work and loves the paycheque that comes with her career. If that means she's sometimes her boyfriend James' sugar mama, so be it. He's very different than her, but she likes that. He can be really sensitive in a way that the boys in business school never were. That being said, he can also be manipulative, and she feels that she's finally waking up to that. Her girl friends at the firm don't particularly like James and so she's stopped telling them about their fights recently.

Renee
Renee is a quiet, intuitive and vigilant woman. She wakes up disoriented and alone in a remote forest, and is desperate and determined to find her way home. She discovers an isolated house and prepares her sharpest key when knocking on its door, ready to fend for herself. When Lorraine welcomes Renee into her home with a motherly warmth, she becomes dissociative and aware of her current state of panic. Renee is adamant about getting a phone, looking for any opportunity to get help. However, Lorraine convinces Renee to stay and rest until her son Malcolm arrives home to help her call home. Once Malcolm arrives, Renee anxiously waits for his phone to charge. While passing the time and exploring the home, she starts to notice eerie layers hidden beneath the welcoming surface: displayed photographs of different women. Malcolm’s frightening behaviour adds to her nerves, as she understands that her intuition is scarily correct. Renee is continuously alert that she is being watched by Malcolm, and her heightened awareness of danger fuels a defensive and instinctive reaction to escape.
Lorraine
Lorraine represses her fear of Malcolm with performative smiles and eerie gentleness. Her demeanor is warm, tender and welcoming towards Renee when she arrives at her house. As a woman, she sympathizes with Renee; however, Lorraine doesn’t warn her of Malcolm’s known danger. Instead, she convinces Renee to stay in their home until he arrives. Lorraine lures her in with food, warm drinks, and a hint at vulnerability when she reveals that she grieves the death of her daughter. She is the victim and enabler in the violent cycle Malcolm perpetuates, as she submits to him by remaining quiet and compliant. Seemingly accustomed to this cycle, Lorraine remains emotionless with every action.
Malcolm
Malcolm is a charismatic, controlling and volatile man who has a predatory fixation on women. His obsession with Renee begins with a performative politeness, growing into a ritualistic and calculative psychological manipulation. His goal is to keep Renee confined in his home. His initial forced charm progresses into pushy intrusion when Renee distances herself, resulting in an irritation that fuels a violent aggression. He uses his male presence as a threat to enforce control and instill fear in Renee and Lorraine; snake-like, his calm and controlled speech unexpectedly turns into harsh and chilling tones. He can’t accept when things don’t go his way, especially when he expects perfection and total submission in the domestic tasks Lorraine performs.
