Storyline
Rainey Day is a short experimental coming-of-age film that follows two teenage girls who escape the suffocating constraints of a small Canadian town in the 1990s. With no specific destination in mind, they chase a sense of freedom while trying to leave their childhood in the past. As they fight to let go of the place they once called home, one runs from a dark truth that drove her away.

Description Raine is a stubborn and blunt 17-year-old who hides her deep anger and vulnerability behind bold humour and a “mean” exterior. Forced to grow up too soon, she has learned to rely on herself and keep others at a distance, making her an outsider in her hometown. Despite dreaming of escaping to a bigger city and becoming someone entirely different, she feels trapped by her family’s financial struggles and the belief that she will never leave. Raine convinces herself she can survive anything, but when it comes to her best friend, Tristan, the one person she truly cares about, her guarded exterior begins to crack. Trying to forget about a violent crime scene Raine was involved in, her psyche begins to deteriorate, leaving her questioning what is real and what is fabricated in her own mind. Description Tristan is an empathetic and loving 17-year-old who appears confident and popular in Eastbrooke, but hides the loneliness and emotional weight she carries at home. With a mother who is rarely around and a stepdad whom she barely knows, she finds comfort in her best friend Raine’s chaotic life, where she feels like she truly fits in. Unlike Raine, Tristan struggles to hide what she feels, often wishing she could be as guarded and unreadable as Raine. As she is forced to confront the realities of growing up, Tristan begins to lose the innocence she once held onto, realizing that the world is not as safe or simple as she once believed. But beneath their deep friendship, Tristan is keeping one secret from Raine: the true depth of her feelings for her.
