Storyline
Logline: Two sardines begin recovering memories of their past lives as human brothers, forcing them to confront the disastrous decision that killed them and rediscover what it means to have each other.

Synopsis:
In the deep blue ocean, two sardines begin to converse about their dreams. PAUL tells JOEL that he remembers him from his past life and that they used to be brothers. After showing Joel how to look back through his memories, Joel relives his moments with Paul, seeing how different their lives used to be. After Paul finds out that Joel was the reason the two brothers had died, they get into a huge fight. With Joel upset, Paul understands that their circumstances aren’t Joel’s fault, and he apologizes to him. The two brothers make up and accept their lives as sardines in the ocean.
Roles
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
LeadPaulMale 25 - 38 Years old
Description
Paul is clean-shaven, average-looking with a hint of nerd, works a middle-end business job, and generally has his life together. He is more grounded and less boisterous than his older brother Joel, with a dry sense of humor and a growing capacity for annoyance at Joel’s behavior. Paul loves his brother, however in ways he looks down on him. The two brothers should be instantly familiar and relatable, as they have been living together and tormenting each other for as long as they can remember. Looking for a more subtle performance, avoiding some of the most obvious “nerd” tropes.
Performance: Restrained, dry, grounded, occasionally frustrated. Strong natural comedic timing and comfortable with quieter emotional moments.
Physical: Clean-cut appearance, average build, slightly nerdy/put-together presentation. The character should contrast visually with Joel while still looking like they could realistically be brothers.
Role typeRoleGender & Age range
LeadJoelMale 27 - 38 Years old
Description
Joel is scruffy, bigger than Paul and less well-dressed. He also has longer, untidy hair and a beard. He is confident, impulsive, and articulate but always seems to be on the verge of doing something stupid that will get him into trouble. Joel is a cheap shark mascot at the car dealership, where he takes the job far more seriously than anyone else. Unlike Paul, Joel has an expressive face and a busier personality, prone to getting himself into silly adventures where he talks himself into believing that his actions have more meaning or sense than they truly do. In spite of this, Joel plays the fool not solely because he is a funny sidekick. He genuinely loves Paul and wants to gain the approval and respect of his brother. There is a sense of insecurity hidden beneath the bravado and impulsiveness, as Joel feels that his life has gone off the rails. The actor should be prepared to be both flamboyant and understated, as he needs to balance between the two extremes to bring the character to life.
Performance: Animated, expressive, impulsive, funny, with the ability to shift into genuine vulnerability. Strong comedic timing and personality are important.
Physical: Larger build than Paul, longer/messy hair, beard or facial hair, generally scruffy appearance. The two actors should look like brothers who have gone down very different paths in life.

PrincipalMr. MockasinMale 40 - 60 Years old
Description
Mr. Mockasin is Joel’s manager at the car dealership. He is a big, intimidating, extremely crass man who has absolutely no filter. He carries himself with an exaggerated confidence and has a larger-than-life personality. The character has a very specific comedic energy. We are looking for someone who can deliver lines with a loud, confident presence and potentially a deeper, exaggerated businessman’s voice. A vocal quality similar to a Vince McMahon-style delivery would be a plus, without requiring an exact impression. Grey hair would be preferred, although bald is also completely fine. Mockasin only appears briefly, but his presence should immediately tell us what kind of workplace Joel has found himself in.
Performance: Big personality, confident, crude, loud, and comfortable with exaggerated comedy.
Physical: Larger/bigger build preferred. Grey hair preferred; bald is also suitable.
