Joan Jones
BLACK FEMALE. Wife to Rocky Jones. Unlike Rocky, Joan eschews the spotlight - but she is undoubtedly the heart and soul of the resistance movement. Oakville-born to a family whose father was a Black railway porter, and insisted that Joan be well-read in Black literature and conversant in the issues of the Black struggle. Joan is fearless, outspoken, occasionally potty-mouthed, and totally committed to fostering positive change for Black Nova Scotians. She is devoted, but contains her frustrations with Rocky's behaviour.
COOKIE
Can play the role of Male. Cookie can charm his way out of a paper bag. If Cookie is in the room, everyone else plays back up. An old fashioned hustler in the vein of Paul Newman in THE STING/THE COLOR OF MONEY. Ryan Oneal in PAPER MOON, and DANNY OCEAN in OCEAN'S ELEVEN (Clooney and Sinatra). Everyone loves him. Women and men. Cookie is the best kind of huckster. He always has a con going but will make you laugh as he empties out your pockets.
DORIS MARTIN
Can play the role of female. A wealthy widow who married young and spent her life raising her now grown (well mannered) children. She recently became engaged to Cookie. There might be red flags on this relationship but honestly this is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to Doris. She might have met him in Florida, but his son is the famous Fred Heckman from Indianapolis so that feels like a good sign. Since the moment she met Cookie, Doris has never had so much fun in her entire life.

MABEL HALL
Sara
Sara, the Leader of the group, the methodical historian and researcher, and now the unofficially appointed "CEO", is the most serious about this project. She wants it to be authentic and well-made and doesn't appreciate her cohorts' cynicism.
Jake
Jake is the Host of the podcast and somewhat skeptical, hoping they see something real but determined to make the best of it.
Mike
Mike is the official camera operator and technical wizard: who's a little too prank-happy. His cynicism is palpable and he's ready to fake something just to get subscribers.
Johnathan
Mid 40s weathered and slow-moving man. Prefer white man for this role. Glint of hope still in his eyes. Sounds like there are years in his voice - raspy and resonant. Participant in group therapy. 6 lines but 300 words. The character gives something close to what can be called a monologue.
Finn
Trapped between his disorders (Tourette’s, ADHD, OCD) and his need to control them. Volatile outbursts, but deeply dependent on his sister, Anja, and shows sensitivity and gratitude by the end, demonstrating his love for her. Actor must respectfully and convincingly portray neurodivergence (tics, meltdowns), and requires a strong physical and emotional acting range.
Veronika
The warm and nurturing, yet emotionally exhausted mother of Anja and Finn. She struggles balancing therapeutic rules, her love for both children, and her own invisible suffering. By the end, she accepts Finn’s need to return to a clinic and receive more treatment.
