Q
Q is a masked vigilante with an already controversial past. He hires two young documentarians to show the world who he truly is. - Q is off putting, unsettling and doesn't bode well in social situations. Jenn
Jennifer wants comfort and she’s willing to try it all—regardless of judgment. She might not be neat, but at least she’s trying. Sometimes being irrational is the most rational thing you can do.
Andrew
Pragmatic to a fault. Avoids his own feelings by trying to “solve” Jennifer. He wants to be on the same page, but fails to meet her where she is. At the core of his actions, there’s a deep love for Jennifer and a longing for connection.
Elise
A portrait of suburban perfection. Type A. She thrives on appearances and organization. She’s always wanted the white picket fence life and sue her for making it happen—she worked hard for it. She’s the kind of person who means well but manages to make everything about herself.
Madina
(Afghan/Middle Eastern/Central/South Asian) Madina is an unapologetic force of nature. She pulls everyone into her orbit the moment she cracks a joke. The kind of girl who will roast you affectionately, copy your homework without shame, and then defend you like it’s her full-time job. Sure, she ends up in detention a little too often, but her heart and intentions are always pure ... even if her ideas are a little chaotic. Madina will never say “I love you,” she’ll show up at your door with snacks and no questions.
Yasmin
(Central/Middle Eastern/South Asian) Everyone knows Yasmin is a stand-out student. Top of her class, a social butterfly, and always two steps (assignments!) ahead. But what’s the point of it all if her mom won’t notice? Beneath her bubbly exterior, she’s drained by the constant pressure to perform. Her smile doesn’t reach her eyes anymore. “Dear diary, falling apart isn’t an option…” Does anyone see her? Does anyone understand?
Virgil Wanders
Eager to prove himself and gain the respect of his community, Virgil Wanders is a young wizard living in Southside Camelot. He has faced adversity his whole life. Whether it’s from the upper Elven class, which suppresses the wizard community, or even the toxic coven culture of the wizard community itself. Virgil must reflect upon the violence around him as he is being consumed by it on his own path for vengeance. Avenging the death of his friend Opal in a fly by casting. Think early season Franklin Saint from Snowfall, combined with Harry Potter.
Caste Spells
Mature and hardened by the real wiza lifestyle. He has been forced to adapt a curse casting and wand wielding lifestyle as a leader of the Wands Coven. Throughout the story he resembles the sides of wizard culture Virgil could succumb to. Think Mitch from Paid in Full, combined with Ice Cube from Boyz N The Hood.
Dumbie Dorms
Immature and borderline psychotic. A perfect representation of the negative effects of sipping too much potion and being locked up at a young age. A satirical representation of real world effects from juvenile detention centers taking hold of black youth within the United States. Dumbie represents a twisted side of wizard culture and a path Virgil could follow if he doesn’t overcome the oppression of his community. Think O-Dog from Menace II Society, combined with Serious Black from Prisoner of Azkaban.
Ice Pot
A true yw or young wiza. Unable to afford the tuition at Camelot University, they had nowhere else to turn than to take his spell casting skills to the covens in his community. Sympathetic to their best friend Killa who can’t cast spells, Ice Pot is a wizard with a good heart who must act hard to survive the nature of his lifestyle. Think Ice Cube from Straight Outta Compton, combined with Ice Cube from Friday, or Cleo from Set it Off 1996.
Prophet
The antagonist to our story and the deadliest wiza with a hood. The one who killed Opal and who Virgil must face at the end of this journey. The Prophet has been corrupted the worst by the oppression the wizard community faces. Prophet originally fought for a noble cause. But from the rage he felt towards other beings in this world that took advantage of Wizard communities, he eventually became consumed by prejudice. Now on a path to wipe out any weakness or non-wizard beings in Southside Camelot, Prophet has lost all nobility in his cause. Think of the song Story of O.J. by Jay Z, combined with Frank Lucas from American Gangster.
