Dawn is a 20 year old woman who has spent the entirety of her life stuck within a small religion-based cult that they call a “family”. She is a very guarded and observant individual. Dawn is aware of the things happening around her, where she realizes that she has to hide her true thoughts and feelings in order to avoid suspicion from the other family members. On the outside, she appears to be a very obedient member of the family, going through the necessary ritual of initiation. However, deep down she struggles with the trauma of the ritual which creates doubt within her towards the beliefs of her family. Dawn is very much to herself.

Twila, a 14 year old girl is bright, naive, and eager to belong. In order to become a true member of her religious “family”, she must be initiated through a ritual, binding herself to her “father.” She views this initiation as an exciting step towards her development as a human being. Her innocence blinds her from the true darker reality behind the ritual.

Kathleen is the motherly figure of the “family.” A devoted member of the cult who is very gentle, warm, and maternal. She has fully accepted the rituals that define the group she has become a part of. She knows to fight against them would be a losing battle, choosing comfortability over freedom. Even though she has accepted the system, Kathleen understands why Dawn cannot.

Denver is the cold, older brotherly figure within the “family.” He is essentially the extension of John’s authority. Like John, Denver believes in the sacred rituals that the “family” obliges by. Denver is the emerging successor of John, a representation that these practices are passed down from generation to generation.

John is the unquestioned leader/father figure of the “family.” He is fully devoted to the groups traditions and leads the rituals that in his head, bring the family closer together. John is intimidating, authoritative, and controlling. He does not come off as a warm and loving figure and is much more colder towards the other members of the “family.” He believes the rituals/traditions are sacred and mandatory. These practices are what define him.

Father Jonah is the religious authority figure who runs the family’s rituals. He is an emotionless individual who enforces the cult’s practices and harmful beliefs. He believes there is nothing wrong with the rituals as he is very immersed in the belief system that has been built within the cult

White/Caucasian Ethnicity : Luna is Mia’s adopted mother and is driven by a deep desire to protect and provide for her. She is down-to-earth, practical, and a little bit naive about love. She is divorced from her ex-husband, Darren Turner after he lost their life savings at the poker tables. This forced Luna to give up her dream of becoming an artist and take a medical administration job, which she loses during the A.I boom. She would do anything for her daughter and regularly makes sacrifices to make sure Mia is always put first.

White/Caucasian Ethnicity : Brilliant and brooding artist and CEO of his design firm. He specializes in revolutionizing the art of body paint as a modern art form. Born wealthy, he grew up with access to the best schools, artist mentors, and materials, but he cannot work without a muse - he must be inspired. He has trouble expressing his emotions and showing vulnerabilities until he meets Luna

White/Caucasian Ethnicity : Mia is Luna’s adopted daughter. She was voluntarily placed in care by her parents after they were caught trying to trade her for drugs and were given the choice of going to jail or surrendering their child. She was adopted at the age of 3 by Luna and her now ex husband Darren. She is precocious, sweet, and has a deep love for her mother. Mia suffers from a rare illness that requires a bone-marrow transplant.

White/Caucasian Ethnicity : Luna’s slimy and scheming ex-husband. He only thinks about himself and trying to get his next big score at the poker table. Luna divorced him after he blew their life saving gambling and Darren abandoned his responsibility to his family to play poker full time. He has a sixth sense for picking up on people’s weaknesses and vulnerabilities. When he senses Luna might be ripe for exploitation, he reaches out to Mia’s biological parents and convinces them that they can make a play for custody with the hope of Luna paying them to give up their claim.

She re-established herself as a respected Art Director, but never let go of her burning flame for Ethan.
